KLEAR (Kilbarrack Local Education for Adult Renewal) started in 1980 when a group of local women, who had worked successfully on a summer project for their children, discussed the momentum generated by their joint efforts with a community worker, employed by the Catholic Youth Council. They decided to stay together to develop themselves through education. Gradually, as their vision and ideas grew, the group began to offer a range of courses in rooms in rooms rented from local schools. This was supported by the local City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB) Adult Education Officer (AEO), who was based in Killester College of Further Education.
KLEAR eventually found a permanent home in a wing of the local infants’ school, St. Mary’s National School Kilbarrack. KLEAR was incorporated as a private limited company in 1995. It obtained charitable status at this stage.
